Arkansas Archeological Society members 18 and older, who are currently enrolled in college or graduate school and who are majoring, or planning to major, in archeology, anthropology, or a related field (e.g., cultural studies, museum studies, geography, etc.) are eligible to apply for scholarship support. Rising freshmen, or recent college graduates who will be enrolling in a graduate program in the next academic year are also eligible. Scholarship applications will be accepted June 1st through August 15th for the following September annual meeting. The number of scholarships awarded annually will be limited by the amount of annual interest earned by the account from which the scholarship funds are drafted.
To apply, please submit the following four items:
- Statement of Interest (1–2 pages) describing your interest in archeology, future education and career plans, and why the Annual Meeting will benefit you as you work towards your goals.
- One letter of reference from a professor or instructor which may be mailed or emailed separately by your professor or instructor to address below.
- A list of college courses and other relevant training you have taken. Please indicate where and when.
- A completed Annual Meeting Registration Form. Include your expected expenses for lodging, meals and travel. You are encouraged to stay at the host hotel and use their room rate for Friday and Saturday. Do not include your expenses for our awards banquet with keynote speaker or registration fees. Those will be provided as part of the scholarship.

Past Recipients
2019 recipient Jacob Madle
After graduating from Alpena High School in 2011, Jacob entered the Marine Corps. While in boot camp, he was selected to serve President Obama, providing security for him and his assets. Upon separation from the Marine Corps, he began attending North Arkansas Community College in Harrison, Arkansas. Later, he moved to Conway, Arkansas so he could attend classes at UCA. He is currently in his senior year at UCA majoring in Anthropology.
2019 recipient Melinda Martin
Melinda received her undergraduate degree in Anthropology from Southeast Missouri State University and her M.S. degree in Earth Sciences in 2019 from the University of Memphis with a focus on archaeology and the iconography of Mississippian Cahokia-style beakers. She is currently enrolled in the Ph.D. program at the University of Memphis, focusing on Mississippian iconography to identify weather-related culture heroes. Upon completion of her Ph.D., she plans to continue research on the Mississippian culture of eastern Arkansas and hopes to eventually obtain a position with the Arkansas Archeological Survey.

In 2018, Michaela was a student at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, working on a Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology and a minor in Sociology with further goals to pursue a PhD.
