Shannon Kardiak
We are saddened to share that Central Chapter member Shannon Kardiak passed away on June 19, 2024 in Little Rock. She was the glue that held the Central chapter together as COVID disrupted the chapter and many loyal members moved away. She worked at UALR in the Sociology and Anthropology Department for a number of years and often helped ARAS stations complete necessary volunteer work. We are keeping Shannon’s family in our thoughts, and we’ll miss Shannon’s passion, consideration for others, and her love of archeology. Family and friends can share memories of Shannon and send flowers through her obituary page here.

Russell Scheibel
We are saddened to learn about the passing of Russell Scheibel, an exceptional Society member who passed away on January 26, 2022. Russell had often served as camp boss at the Society-Survey Training Programs, and worked for the Survey as a man of several trades, including the proto version of Society/Survey Liaison. Detailed in his obituary, family members described him as “a generous, kind-hearted person, loved by many,” and he lived a fulfilled life. We are sending our love and support to his family and friends during this difficult time.
Danny Crumbliss
We’ve recently learned that former Arkansas Archeological Society president Danny Crumbliss passed away on October 11th, 2022. Danny loved archeology and was a long-time member of the Arkansas Archeological Society helping out on many projects throughout the state. He also served on the Board of Advisors for the Parkin Research Station from 2001 to 2012 and served as president of the Society in 2008-09. Below is a brief autobiography that was written by Danny at the request of former Field Notes editor Hester Davis as part of a “Know Your Officers” section when he became president in 2008. As Danny’s sister-in-law noted on his Facebook page “Danny had a zest for life and would want no mourners, but rather take a moment to lift a glass of Irish Whiskey knowing he lived a good and full life, and passed peacefully.”
